Background
The Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art, located at the foot of the verdant Nihondaira plateau, was opened in April 1986 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Shizuoka Prefectural Assembly. Known as "the Museum with Something for Everyone," it hosts lectures, workshops, symposiums and concerts, as well as permanent collections and loan exhibitions.
In March 1994, the Rodin Wing opened, displaying various works by French sculptor Auguste Rodin. Pieces exhibited here include The Gates of Hell, the 6th cast and six figures of The Burghers of Calais, and The Thinker. The bright, huge space gives visitors ample room to observe and enjoy these works.
Currently, the Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art is working to further enrich its collection, continue to hold exhibitions, and promote further educational activities in the future.
