Gen Yamaguchi (1896-1976) was a woodcut artist who was born in Fuji City, Shizuoka, and died in Enoura, Numazu City which is also located in Shizuoka Prefecture. Yamaguchi studied under Koshiro Onchi whom Yamaguchi met through social service activities Kyoto. He joined Ichimoku-kai in 1939, a group led by his master Onchi. Yamaguchi cultivated a field of abstract woodcut painting during this period. In 1949, Yamaguchi became a member of Kokuga-kai. He was awarded many grand prizes at international woodcut painting exhibition including Ljubljana, and Lugano. Our exhibition will invite you to an entire world of Yamaguchi art... there you can re-appreciate his excellent work. The exhibition is held as we celebrate his 100th Birthday this year.
