A Great Master of Modern Western Paintings
Wada Eisaku Exhibition

Wada Eisaku was born in 1874, and his permanent address isi n Tarumizu, Kagoshima Prefecture, Southern Japan. During his youth, he studied under members of Meiji Art Associations such as Soyama Yukihiko, Harada Naojiro. Later, he studied at Tenshin|dojo of Kuroda Seiki and joined a group which formed Hakuba|kai. He played an active role as an representative of new school of Western paintings. Wada, who's famous for his masterpiece, Evening at the Ferry spent 4 years in Europe. After coming back to Japan, he contributed himself to establish Japanese Western paintings' academicism as a professor of Tokyo School of Fine Art and a judge fo Bunten Exhibitions.
He spent the last 7 years of his life in Shimizu City in Shizuoka Prefecture and produced numerous paintings of Mt. Fuji, known as his life works. He died in Shimizu City in 1959 at the age of 83.
Based on steady sketching, the style of Wada Eisaku's work is moderate and easy to understand His work directly indicates on eside of Japanese oil paintings.
Our Exhibition is the collection of his master-pieces, reviwing the significance of his art.
